Make it a Date with Keds

Make it a Date with Keds
Here's another set inspired by Keds. This entire outfit came to fruition because I have become OBSESSED with the hi-low trend. I should clarify that I'm not a huge fan of a hi-low cut in dresses (at least not on me) but in shirts this style has the ability to accentuate your curves, trick the eye into thinking you have curves to accentuate in the first place, hide some flaws, or all of the above! It really depends on the cut and your body type, as with most styles and trends. And, let's be honest, the models make it look so darn cute and obtainable you just have to try it! That being said, on to the fashion! The hi-low flowered top ($25) is perfect if you're just trying out the trend because the cut is not overly stressed. This way its a bit flirty and cute rather than a 'fashion moment.' Again depending on your body type, the high part of the top might not be practical and may emphasize the remaining muffin top/belly that you still have yet to lose before summer really gets here. Therefore, I say put a camisole under it like the pink one shown here ($7.97). I prefer a bit of color to make this otherwise considerably neutral outfit pop. Plus if the light and patterned top is over a solid long cami then the eye is more easily able to detect the hi-low cut (and vice versa: if the hi-low top is a solid and/or dark color, throw a light and/or patterned cami on underneath for a noticeable contrast). On to the jeans ($135). Nothing says weekend and relaxed like a pair of distressed slim fit jeans! A basic staple piece that will match whatever colors you choose to throw together on the top (love how true that is)! As for the shoes: Keep It Simple Stupid! A pair of Keds ($55) or some other kind of comfy flats easily pull this look together. Now, as I said before, this fashion set was meant for the Keds contest but in the main description the emphasis was put on creating a first date outfit. Seeing as it is for a Keds promo I figured it was for more of a relaxed and casual date (P.S. if your first dates consist of more jet-setting and candlelight dinners at expensive places that takes reservations months in advance, I hate you...) Anyhoo... a simple wristlet is perfect for a day or night time date ($48). I think bringing a huge purse is very intimidating. Don't get me wrong, I'm a person who stuffs her life in her purse before leaving the house normally, BUT the basic essentials should be fine. And what outfit is complete without a bit of sparkle? NOT a rhetorical question people, so let me know if you find the answer! This simple flower ring brings a coolness to the outfit with its white and light blue tones (6.72 English pounds). I have a bit of a twist on the ring though: if you haven't noticed women wearing dainty statement pieces on their index fingers is IN. So try it. It's more likely to get noticed if its on your dominate hand and can be a conversation starter. Last but not least, to cap this look THE SIDE PONY! I don't know if this hairstyle has ever really gone out of style, but there have been so many takes on it from the sleek and sophisticated ones seen on red carpets to the messy ones rocked at music festivals. For a first date, or even just for a casual weekend, I suggest a slightly messier version. SLIGHTLY! Let a few strands of hair fall freely from the ponytail to help frame the face. It will soften your look. For those of you with layers or a recent haircut, those shorter pieces are going to come out anyway (they always find a way). So if you're not lucky enough to be able to beat your hair into submission, at least make it work to your advantage. OK, that's it for this time peeps. Next time will be all about how to stay cute amiss the music festival scene. Hint: no matter what you wear, nothing looks cute after a few days of wear and grodiness! Well, until next time....
